All I Want for Christmas is a Six-Pack

All I want for Christmas is a six-pack. It’s a toss up between a six-pack of abs or Sweetwater 420 – my favorite beer.

Seriously, I’m on a mission to get the body I want but I’m having some technical difficulties. Husband and I were having a lovely chat last night I wouldn’t let him go to sleep until he listened to me whine about my weight. This is how it went.

Me: “I need to get my food back in order. I’ve been eating out of control.”

Husband: “You always say that.”

GASP!

He’s right, I do, but I still hit him with a pillow.

Husband: “This is what you should do – blog about it.”

Me: “Really?”

Husband: “Yes, put it out there so you can have some accountability. Blog and tweet whatever you eat (he really wasn’t rhyming). I bet your people will help keep you in line.”

Translation, share it with them so I can go to sleep and not hear this for the zillionth time this year. (Disclaimer: he really is my biggest supporter … but he really does like to sleep.)

He’s got a point. Accountability is important and the blogosphere/twitterverse can be super supportive. I’ve talked about losing weight before but never really put myself out there. Its Holiday time and I’m sure I’m not the only one who struggles with making good food choices (if I am feel free to lie to me. No, really. Santa will still come.).

While I won’t overkill you good people with what I’m eating, I am going to share my journey to a healthier me. Christmastime is a little unrealistic, but I turn 40 in April and I’d love to finally have the body I’ve been wanting for my birthday. If I start now it, I should be able to rock a bikini for my big 4-0.

Completing a marathon has taught me many lessons. It showed me that I can be disciplined. With patience and hard work, I can do things I never thought I possible. If you see I start to slip, please kick me in the ass remind me of that.

I have a 6-pack on my Christmas wish list too....the abs kind! I've been on a mission to healthier living consistently this year. I've changed my eating but more importantly, I'm exercising regularly--and trying to add some running in there too. The Big 4-0 is a big milestone and striving for a better body in our 40s is a great idea...things change....but we can reverse gravity and the inevitable....Just keep moving forward and remember small steps still get you to your destination!

Oh yes! Accountability is so huge! I tried doing weight watchers on my own for a bit, but found that weighing in with those little old retired ladies behind the counter cheering me on for the .2 loss or tsking for the .5 gain, was enough to keep me going back and drop the pounds.

Now that I am at goal, I have a couple friends that have an email chain for check ins. Keeps us connected and accountable.

Good luck!

You can do it!! I passed the 4-0 in 2009. Since then well I pass the bigger 4-1 :) and I lost 70 lbs and started running. You are already ahead: you run already! If I could do this, anyone can! dont have a 6 packs yet..maybe a 2 1/2

40 in April! I don't believe it. I thought you were 25! Now go get yourself a salad and start shopping for that bikini.

I completely agree with you on the accountability aspect! That was one of my motivating factors to start my blog, Vie Balance and it has kept me honest and encouraged me to share more than I usually would (such as side view shots of my body post-baby). I also found this handy food and exercise journal, called a Wellness Journal, made by Moleskine which I'm starting to use to track my progress and keep myself honest. Good luck with your goal!!
