2011 Resolution Run Recap: Rain Anyone?

Sure, I’ll have a little rain with my run. That's just what I wanted to kick off the New Year.

To say it was wet during the Atlanta Track Club’s 2011 Resolution Run would be an understatement. I thought about bringing a bucket with me to run but saw they weren’t allowed in the rules – right next to no headphones and no strollers.

The rain wasn’t a surprise, our trusty weather-people had been forecasting it all week so I was mentally prepared to start off the year sloshing running through puddles. And, you know what? It was FUN. Yup, I said it.  It was actually fun. This is how I know I’m truly hooked, when torrential downpours won’t keep me from a 5K and a cute T-shirt.

Speaking of the shirt, here’s what they gave us …

My long sleeve shirt and number. I wrote Project Me in the 7.

The race was at noon which was perfect since the night before was New Year’s Eve. Yes, I behaved – a few beers, ahem, a little bubbly and lots of water. The next morning, as I got ready for the race everyone seemed shocked that I was still going because of the rain.

Me, DRY, getting ready to go.

Driving to the race I started to question my sanity, too, when I looked out the window and all I saw was this …

Yikes!

I felt better when I got there and saw all the other crazy dedicated runners, too.

In line waiting for my number.

There was no tweeting and picture taking during this race – I couldn’t get my phone wet so I snapped a few shots before I took off.

The start.

The finish.

Me, WET, after.

I finished the 5K in 34.13. Not a PR, but not bad considering my clothes weighed about 10 pounds by the end of the race. For real.

I’m thrilled that I decided to troop it out and that my first race of 2011 is in the books – even though my running shoes are still drying out.

Winks & Smiles,

It was great seeing you out there! My shoes are still wet, too :) It was a great way to start 2011, even if a lot of our GF Compatriots bailed on the run for a drier brunch!

The rain made it a very messy Resolution Run, but yes it was fun

Wow, that's a lot of rain! We hardly ever have rain in CO so I can't even tell you the last time I ran in stuff like that - a long time ago for sure! Very Hard Core, great job!

Happy New year!

Great job! What does your blue shirt say in the picture of you? It looks really cool!

Thanks, Everyone!

Janice, the shirt says, "Badass Mother Runner." It's one of the Run Like a Mother gals' shirts. ;)

Love this. I ran a few races in the rain last year, and yes, once I wrapped my head around it, it was fun. And SOAKED!!
And, my husband couldn't believe I was going "you'll get sick" Dude, you get sick from germs, not from being wet.
Anyhow, great job!
Has anyone told you how pretty you are?

Runs like this should have a weigh in after to see how much water weight you packed along the way.. WOW!! Way to tough it out..

Awesome. You are definitely a true runner by doing that rainy race!

You are brave! I am terrified of running in the rain. I just picture ultra heavy sopping wet shoes. I can barely carry myself, let alone heavy clothing! ;)

Happy New Year!!!! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who ran a Resolution 5K. I am glad the rain held out for me though (I'm in VA)...not sure I would have braved the rain. I'm new to running and the off road/thru the woods and on gravel New Years race was enough for this novice runner. Thanks for the inspiration. I plan to run at least 6 races this year, which is double what I did in 2010. I'm still getting into this running game, but I am getting addicted. Thanks for the run updates and wifey/mom updates.

It looks like a blast! Back in December I ran a ridiculously muddy trail race in the rain, and my husband thought I was crazy. Love the shirt!

P.S. This is my first time coming across your blog, and I love the look of it. I can definitely relate!

Impressive getting out there in the rain! I've definitely canned a race or two due to weather. Next time I have to force myself to get out there!
